Finkl Steel: Legacy and Innovation Forge the Global Leader in Forging

  • Posted Date:2025-01-07

Finkl Steel is a long-established forging company dedicated to the combination of quality and innovation. The company adheres to the motto "Progress is Tradition," which remains at the core of its strategic guiding principles. Through continuous technological innovation and process improvement, Finkl Steel has solidified its leadership position in the global steel forging industry.

The Finkl Steel Group consists of multiple production facilities, including two melting plants, three forging plants, and four production bases. It offers a wide range of steel products, from a few pounds to over 100,000 pounds, catering to the diverse needs of its customers. Whether for high-precision steel forging or custom special applications, strict quality control and advanced production techniques ensure the excellence of its products.

Production Capacity

Finkl Steel's production process includes multiple stages, such as melting, forging, heat treatment, and machining. Each step is meticulously executed to ensure the highest quality of the products.

1. Melting

The steel materials are made from rigorously controlled scrap steel, which is melted using electric arc furnaces located in Chicago and Sorel, Canada. After the steel is melted, it undergoes further refining in an outside furnace and is treated through a vacuum degassing process to remove unwanted gases, ensuring the purity of the steel. For high-performance applications, the vacuum arc remelting (VAR) process is also employed to further enhance the steel's quality.

2. Forging

Starting from a small forge, the company has developed into a world leader in open-die forging, with presses ranging from 750 tons to 8,000 tons. The company utilizes wide-die forging technology to produce a variety of forged parts. Their forging capabilities meet the demands of traditional industries, and they can also provide customized products based on specific customer requirements.

3. Heat Treatment

The company has a pioneering history in water-cooled steel treatment technology and is capable of treating steel in a wide range of shapes and sizes. The heat treatment process achieves hardening effects through specially designed furnaces, ensuring even and efficient heating while minimizing energy loss.

4. Machining

The machining equipment includes milling machines, band saws, and lathes, which effectively remove oxidation layers from the forged steel parts' surface. The company provides rough-machined surfaces for ultrasonic testing and further processing. Additional services include semi-finished machining, stress relief, hole treatments, and tool marking, saving valuable time for customers.

Quality Control and Certification

In 1993, the Chicago facility became the first steel manufacturer to obtain ISO 9001 certification. Today, all forging facilities are certified to ISO 9001:2015 standards. With advanced metallurgical technologies, modern chemical analysis equipment, comprehensive mechanical and metallurgical laboratories, and strict statistical process control techniques, Finkl Steel ensures quality control is embedded in every step of the production process, guaranteeing that every product meets the highest standards.

Innovation History

Since its inception, Finkl Steel has been a pioneer of innovation and progress. The company's founder, Anton Finkl, made groundbreaking inventions in steel processing that laid a solid foundation for its future development. Entering the 21st century, the company has continually introduced advanced technologies and processes, particularly in material science and forging techniques, ensuring its competitive edge in the global steel industry.
