Classification Alloy Steel
S235B Chemical Element Composition Content (%)
  Component C Mn P S ①② Cu N
t≤40mm Minimum Value - - - - - -
Maximum Value 0.17 1.4 0.035 0.035 0.55 0.012

Maximum Value 0.2 1.4 0.035 0.035 0.55 0.012
① The max. S content may be increased for improved machinability by 0,015 % by agreement if the steel is treated to modify the sulphide morphology and if the chemical composition shows min 0,002 0 % Ca.
② The P and S content may be 0,005 % higher.
③ Cu contenl above 0,40 % can cause hot shortness during hot forming.
④ The maximum value for nitrogen does not apply if the chemical composition shows a minimum total Al content of 0,020 % or, alternalively, minimum 0,015 % acid soluble Al or if s ufficient other N-binding elements are present. In this case, the N-binding elements shall be mentioned in the inspection document.
